So I can totally see why everyone thinks Paladin Danse is an asshole. He can be extremely serious, and takes his role, and duty to the Brotherhood incredibly seriously.

Death to all non-humans and all that.

But.

Did anyone actually raise his affinity high enough to know why he became part of the Brotherhood?

And I’m sorry (not really) but Nick and Strong are the only two non-humans I’ve met so far that haven’t tried to kill me so the fact that almost every single non-human has attacked me in the game then the Brotherhood doesn’t seem to be so bad.

Danse must be protected at all costs.
Fight me.

there have been communities of nonhuman creatures who don’t hurt you in previous games, though.

underworld and the slog in fallout 3 & 4 are settlements populated by friendly ghouls who will trade with you, feed you, heal you, and be as nice to you as humans would be, considering the only differences between ghouls and humans are immense amounts of radiation and rotting skin. ferals don’t count because they are literal zombies. not to mention that 3 separate ghouls (charon, raul, hancock) across 3 different games could be your companions, one of which is able to be romanced! and don’t forget the random npc’s who just so happen to be ghouls.

synths are people made out of metal. that’s it. glory in the railroad is a synth, nick valentine is a synth, random people all over the commonwealth and capital wasteland are synths. some of them are bad, some of them are good. just like people made of flesh and bone.

super mutants would be the only exception to this rule however there have always been super mutants who have been friendly. fallout 3’s fawkes, fallout new vegas’ lily (who lives in jacobstown, an entire settlement full of friendly mutants and nightkin), and fallout 4’s strong.

all of the sentient, intelligent races of the fallout series have proven that some of their species are friendly, therefore fuck the brotherhood’s prejudice.
