I just figured out why it bugs me so much that Beauxbatons was turned into an all-girl school for the movies (aside from the fact that Beauxbatons and Durmstrang became a mess of sexist stereotypes):

Fleur is the only girl among the four champions. This creates an unfortunate implication that the only way a girl could be worthy to participate is if she has no male competition.
